3 Tips for Creating Social Media Content
Aug 23, 2021It’s been a while since we’ve talked about creating social media content and I know it is one of the topics I get asked about the most.
Why? Because creating content week after week, month after month – it can be hard!
If you’re struggling a bit with content right now, you’re not alone. It can be the hardest part of the job. So today, I wanted to share a few tips to help get your content flowing again.
Batch your content. Today pick one theme, content pillar or idea and sit down and create as many post ideas on that one theme as you can. Science shows it takes time for our brain to ‘warm up’ to an area of focus, so this method helps you create more piece of content in one go.
Brainstorm for 30 minutes, and then then schedule these posts to go out over the next weeks or even months.
For example, if you’ve got an event coming up – think about all the things you can share. Brainstorm facts about speakers or event activities, things that are happening, find pictures from past events you can share, take some behind the scenes photos, dig up some stats from past events, pull out a few tips or insights from the lessons or how to make the most of your event day. Get the idea?
Put yourself in your audience’s shoes. Close your eyes (go on, I won’t watch) and picture yourself as one of the people who follow your Page or account. Who am I and what do I want to see? Am I browsing Facebook at 2am while awake with a fussy baby? Am I struggling with anxiety and need something to make me smile? What do I need to know, think or feel about your organisation in order to support you?
This thought starter is a great way to create meaningful content that gets your audience engaging and really getting value from being part of your community.
Let trends and theme days inspire ideas. If you’re really struggling to fill your month, there are always lots of events and activities happening to spark new ideas and ways to present your content. You can jump online and search for theme days or you can grab yourself a copy of our 12-month Content Calendars and looks specifically at theme days and ideas that work for not-for-profits, causes and social impact organisations.
