Facebook Insights and Why Numbers are Everything in Social Media
Mar 24, 2017Insights provide information about your Page’s performance such as demographic data about your audience and how people are responding to your posts.
You don’t have to be a numbers guru to get this stuff and it is seriously worth checking out.
To see your Page Insights, click Insights at the top of your Page. From here, you can view metrics about your Page by clicking the sections on the left (e.g Likes, Reach etc.)
Here are my top three ways to use this data to your advantage:
- Overview– this tab gives you important data about your page at a glance including new page likes, post reach and engagement for the last week. Make sure you take a look at how the week has performed; look at spikes/dips and what worked well and what didn’t.
In the overview section there is also a Pages to Watch section, which allows you to choose Pages from the same industry to compare your data with. Check out your competition and see what they’re doing that’s working (and get ideas from it!)
- Posts – here there is a section called When Your Fans Are Online. Use this data to figure out the ideal times to post in order to get the biggest organic reach. Remember you’ve got about a two-hour window for your posts to show up in people’s news feeds.
Tip: Try to find a peak to use that is unique to your specific audience. If you post when EVERYONE is online (between 2-4pm) it will be much harder for your content to cut through.
- People –here there is a section called Your Fans. This shows you the percentage of people who like your Page based on their age and gender. This way you can check if your ideal target audience aligns with the people you are actually attracting. You can also look at people reached and people engaged to see the type of people who are interacting with your content. If your fans/reach/engagement doesn’t match with your ideal audience, ask yourself ‘do I need to change my voice or my content to attract the right people?’
So, I challenge you to check out these tabs this month and let me know if you discover anything interesting.
Put aside a few minutes each month to check out these numbers and I promise it will make a huge difference.
