Perfection is costing you more than you think 😬
Apr 22, 2025
Quick question:
How many brilliant content ideas have you not posted this year… because they weren’t quite ready yet?
Maybe the caption wasn’t just right.
Maybe the graphic needed one more tweak.
Maybe you thought:
“I’ll just come back to this tomorrow when I’ve got a bit more time to finish it properly.”
And then—spoiler alert—tomorrow never came.
I see this all the time.
People sitting on gold, second-guessing it into oblivion. And here is an even bigger secret. I've done it too.
That fundraiser story you could’ve told but didn’t?
That imperfect-but-real video you never uploaded?
That messy content idea that could’ve connected deeply with your audience—if only you’d let it out?
Here’s the uncomfortable truth: Perfection is costing you.
It’s costing you momentum.
It’s costing you visibility.
And most importantly, it’s costing you opportunities to connect with the people who actually need to hear from you.
The world doesn’t need more perfectly curated Canva carousels.
It needs real stories. From real humans. That remind people why your mission matters.
And here’s the wild bit—
Every time I’ve posted something slightly unpolished, slightly messy, a little rushed… that’s the stuff that actually lands. One of my best ever ads used a photo of me at my desk in a messy mum bun just using the natural light of the window! WAY better than anything polished or professional.
Because people don’t remember if the lighting was perfect.
They remember how you made them feel.
So, this is your pep talk: You don’t need to be a perfectionist.
You don’t need to wait until you have the perfect words.
You just need to hit publish.
Imperfect content is still better than invisible content.
Let’s ditch the perfectionism and start making progress.
Because honestly? The people you serve need to hear from you.
Not when it’s perfect. Now.
Talk soon,
Alecia
P.S. I’ve seen “good enough” content change lives. I’ve also seen “perfect” content sit in drafts for three months and do nothing. Let’s not make that mistake again, yeah?
